Investment Strategy

Global Champions Split Corp.
 
The Global Champions Portfolio is primarily focused on consumer discretionary-oriented companies that our manager, Brookfield Investment Management (Canada) Inc., believes are industry leaders with large or dominant market shares or dominant competitive positions and which have the following characteristics: 
  • strong international franchises with a growing customer base
  • highly cash generative businesses that support an attractive expansionary dividend policy, either currently or prospectively
  • proven operating platforms and market power that enable potential for margin expansion and enhanced profitability
  • strong financial positions with large market capitalizations and open and easy access to the capital markets
  • prudent capital structures supported by investment grade credit ratings.

We invest in companies with long-term growth potential with many of these companies expanding their emerging markets penetration. It is expected that our Portfolio will consist primarily of securities of foreign (non-Canadian) issuers. 

Initially, our Portfolio consists of approximately 16 large capitalization companies. And we may, from time to time, hold a portion of our assets in cash and cash equivalents.

The Global Resource Champions Portfolio is primarily focused on resource companies or companies with resource-related infrastructure that our manager, Brookfield Investment Management (Canada) Inc., believes are market leaders with large or dominant market shares or dominant competitive positions and which have the following characteristics: 
 
  • ability to weather near-term weakness in global commodity prices through balance sheet strength and strong management;
  • world-class, low cost resource properties with long-life reserves, or infrastructure that supports these properties;
  • proven operating platforms with leverage to rising commodity prices;
  • strong financial positions with large market capitalizations; and
  • prudent capital structures supported by investment grade credit ratings.
The Manager intends to invest in resource companies that it views to have long-term growth potential. It is expected that our Portfolio will consist primarily of securities of foreign (non-Canadian) issuers. 

Initially, the Portfolio consists of approximately 15 large capitalization companies. And it may, from time to time, hold a portion of its assets in cash and cash equivalents.
